TIPS FOR SEARCHING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

  • The secret to success with scholarships is "never give up". We encourage students to take an hour a week to search for scholarships and apply to as many as possible.
  • Every college and university offers scholarships and financial aid.It is recommended you contact your favorite college or university early in your college planning. Most colleges have web sites with their scholarships, awards and honors programs listed.
  • Check out the CHS SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN which is updated often with several local and national scholarships.
  • The CHS SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION is available online. Over 30 local scholarship funds are available for CHS seniors planning to attend a technical school, 2-year college or 4-year college/university next Fall.  Deadline is 11:59pm on March 31, 2019.
  • Visit www.theWashBoard.org for scholarship money available to Washington state students. (Note, most scholarships are posted October through April.)
  • Search scholarships at www.bigfuture.collegeboard.org

WHAT CAN STUDENTS DO RIGHT NOW TO PREPARE TO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Have copies of at least three (3) good letters of recommendation from teachers, employers or mentors.
  • Be able to show documented proof of community or volunteer service.
  • Know your current cumulative GPA.
  • Know your SAT or ACT scores or be preparing to take the SAT or ACT.
  • Write a one to two page essay that highlights your strengths and touches on the following information:

HELPFUL HINTS FOR COMPLETING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS

  • Print all worksheets/applications and prepare a draft before completing online.
  • Transcripts are available from the CHS Guidance Office. Attendance reports are available from the CHS Attendance Office.
  • "Deadline" usually means the scholarship application is due at the inpidual scholarship office, NOT postmarked on deadline date.
  • Our staff is always available to meet with parents and students to help support students through this often long and arduous process but it can really pay off for those who are tenacious!
