WINTER SPORTS RECAP – CONGRATS TO ALL OUR WINTER ATHLETES

Girls Basketball

The Curtis Girls Basketball team competed well in a tough SPSL North division this season. Student athletes grew, learned, and represented Curtis with class, respect, and resilience. The varsity squad was recognized by coaches around the league with the SPSL North Sportsmanship Award. Senior guard, Peyton Akins, was also celebrated individually, capturing a Second Team All-League spot alongside impressive peers.

Wrestling

The Viking wrestling team conquered many foes this season. The girls’ program won several battles and claimed gold, including the SPSL team title. This was followed up by a 2nd in state championship, including 3 individual state champions. The boys program placed top 3 in a few tournaments this season. Several wrestlers took first place in local tournaments and skirmishes. As a young team, this squad is excited for future clashes with SPSL rivals.

Curtis Cheer

Cheer had an exciting season this year! Competing in two divisions in person after a couple of years to recover from the pandemic brought excitement, adversity and a second place trophy at state with a team made up of cheerleaders with little to no competition experience. The team traveled to Florida for the National High School Cheerleading Championships where they experienced competition like they’ve never been  a part of before and made memories that will last a lifetime. During their competitive season they still continued to support their school cheering on the sidelines.

This year we had 4 varsity cheerleaders chosen as Varsity All American; two of them traveled to London over winter break to participate in the New Year’s Day Parade.

Then went to the league tournament where they took 2nd place. Earned a spot at the West Central District Tournament and placed 1st. Earning a spot into the WIAA State Tournament, where it came down to the very last game with the Vikings pulling out a win and earning the title.
